Making the Last Slide: Calls to Action and QR Codes
Readers who swipe to the end of a card news post are highly interested. If the last slide clearly says what to do next, they are more likely to save, share or visit. Here is how to build it and how to place a QR code.
Three things the last slide needs
- A one-line summary: recap the slides in one sentence, ideally answering the question from the cover.
- One call to action: pick one of save, share, follow or visit a link. Asking for several things gets none of them done.
- A way to continue: an account name or a QR code people can act on right away.
When you need a QR code
Text inside a post image is not clickable. If you want to send people to a product page, a form or a blog post, a QR code helps, because a phone camera opens it without typing an address. If you only want a follow or a save, the wording alone is enough.
QR placement rules
- Size: a side of 300px or more on a 1080px canvas scans reliably on most phones.
- Contrast: a dark code on a light background scans best. Do not invert it or use colors close to the background.
- Quiet zone: leave empty space around the code. Text or art pressed against it can break scanning.
- Position: place it near the center and add one line beside it saying what it does, such as "Apply here" or "See details".
- No distortion: do not stretch, rotate or cover part of it.
Check before saving
- Scan it with a camera on another device and confirm the intended page opens.
- Make sure that page loads fast and reads well on mobile.
- Trim long tracking strings from the address; a shorter address makes a simpler, more readable code.
- For event links, confirm the page remains available after the event ends.
Common mistakes
- A code so small that phones cannot read it
- Three or more calls to action that blur the focus
- Skipping a real scan after export, so a wrong address goes out
- A last slide that looks different from the rest. Reuse the same fonts, colors and margins.
Adding a QR code in SimpleDeck
In the SimpleDeck studio, add a QR code from the elements menu and enter the address to generate it on the slide. Adjust size and position, add your line of text, then save all slides as a ZIP. Scan the exported image once before you post it.
